east ranga - july begins…
The first 10 days of the East Ranga season saw generally nice fishing conditions – clear water, a good height and not too much wind.
We were cautious not to place too many rods in these opening days as the river can sometimes not receive many fish until early July, and we were right to do so as the fish were encountered mostly in 3 sessions of the river, and seems to run through others.
Guides were very focused and fishers fished hard, and in the end the average of 6-8 rods over the 10 days hooked around 120 salmon and landed 52, all of which were two sea winter salmon ranging from 8 - 19 lbs.
The lodge, run by managers Marta and Julita, operated as smoothly as ever – ensuring fishers experienced top quality meals, and friendly attentive service.
All in all a decent start, we maintain low rod numbers until 7 July and will wait to see how the fishing develops.
